Getting a Brazlian Visa in Santiago Chile
Experience getting a Brazilian visa in Santiago on a tourist visa/work visa (May 2013).

It took us two visits as we didn`t have all the papers they wanted the first time, it is not difficult at all if you have all the papers with you. If you don`t speak Spanish it`s not a huge deal either, one of the visa officers speaks a small amount of English.

First off you enter your information using this link https://scedv.serpro.gov.br/frscedv/index.jsp , have a printer handy as you need to print off one sheet to take with you, the rest of the application they access electronically.

We went to the Brazilian Visa office (different location from the Brazilian Embassy it is on Enrique Mac Iver in Bellas Artes area, office opens at 10), they have a sign that says they will only process 15 tourist visas per day and from our experience they stick to that rule, I was numbers 14 and 15 the second time I went back and a few people who had arrived after me were told to come back the next day. You can take other people's passports in to be processed with yours, I took my husband's the second time I went back as he was at work and they didn't have a problem that he was no physically there. If you have the ticket you can also collect another person's passport.

You need the following:

• Copy of your return plane ticket

• Copy of your accommodation confirmation

• Take one passport size photo – if you are vain be aware the photo is actually part of the visa permanently inserted into your passport!!

• Photocopy of your passport photo page

• Photocopy of your tourist card/visa

• A photocopy of your credit card (front and back), the numbers need to be clear and visible (I know this is a bit odd but they refused to take a copy with the last few digits blacked out, we had to go and copy again then when we got back to the office they were no longer accepting visa applications as it was after 1pm so I went back the next day), a print out of your credit card statement with clear funds showing. You need this for each person over the age of 18, even for husband and wife one account/credit card even with $10,000USD available is not sufficient. I think you can use a bank statement showing your income too/available funds is ok.

They give you a payment slip for the BCI bank around the corner and you pay the fee, come back to the visa office give them the slip so they know you have paid, they give you a receipt for your passports and you collect them in 7 days. I asked if it would be possible to collect on Friday (it was a Monday when we lodged) as I was picking friends up at the airport Monday morning and the visa officer said it was fine and changed my slip. The following Thursday I was in the area so went up to see if by chance the passports were ready, they were so it actually only took four days to process.

We were issued with 5 year multi-entry visa and could stay for 90 days per visit without extension and a total of 180 days. It cost $CLP24,500 to process an Australian passport and $CLP46,500 to process a Canadian passport. The chart on the wall read somewhere around $CLP110,000 for US passports.

Out of interest when I was collecting our passports I asked the visa officer how much money they expected to see available for each day in Brazil, he told me “about $100-150USD per day” if staying in hotels or $2500USD per month if you had rented an apartment for longer stays.

Visa request
What is the best way to obtain a Brazilian visa from outside Australia, can it be organised in North America or is Santiago a more ideal option?
Thank you,
