In a bid to modernize the telecommunications sector in Ethiopia, the government is committing big political revolution by terminating employment contract of nearly 4,500 employees of the former Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporations. I'm one of the victims who lost their jobs after serving the telecom for 15 years. The problem is not to be assigned by the France Telecom run management of Ethio Telecom but the absence of another private telecom company in the country. Because of this the government is using telecommunications as a strategic policy instrument of discrimination against the non members of EPRDF and opposition in access to employment.
One can witness the cost of living at this time due to hyper inflation with employment and getting monthly salary. So how do you think we can survive without jobs? Let the people of the world know that the Ethiopian government is committing crimes against its own people. The government is working only for its own members and denying access to public employment for non members. Non members are now being fired from their job without any justifications. Employments on the basis of merit, educational qualification, skill, knowledge and experience have no values for this government but one big criterion MEMBERSHIP TO EPRDF.
What do you advise us? Where shall the 4500 colleagues and myself get employment? The majority of our professional career spent on Telecom after graduation yet there is no other telecom in the country? How could we earn a living with our families? Guess the number of people who are going to be affected because of the 4500 household heads loss their jobs? On average if a father or mother has four families; at least 18000 fellow citizens will be joining the poverty line.
