I applied for a visa to Portugal to attend an international conference HPV2015)in Portugal.
I paid for the conference as well as the payment for the hotel that I planned to stay. I provided all these evidences as well as a letter from my employer, a respected first class University in Nigeria.
But for reasons best known to the Portuguese embassy, the visa application was rejected.
The annoying part of this was that the embassy did have the courtesy to send the reasons for the refusal in English. The refusal was typed in Portuguese. So I had to start looking for an interpreter.
By refusing to grant the visa, the Portuguese embassy is depriving their country earnings from hotel accommodation and products that myself and colleagues would have bought.(For your information, my friends going to Portugal for the conference also withdrew cancelled their hotel bookings and money paid for the conference).
I have a well paid job in Nigeria and I don't speak Portuguese and I am not a refugee looking for asylum. Even if I am Portugal will be the last country I will l I will turn to for asylum.
