Africa referred to as a developing continent, having a quirt number of countries that are living in total poverty situation dues to different number of factors.
These factors include: Geographical, Social, Economical, political E.T.C.
Geographically, many poor countries of Africa have got no natural resources mainly minerals plus natural environment that favors the peasants and commercial farmers to prosper.
Socially, the high illiteracy rate in African countries is also a big encumbrance in this regard
Political instability in African countries is also another tragedy to the development of African countries.
Basing on the above factors, this is why a big number of people especially those living in the rural areas are in a miserly situation of poverty.
The greatest challenges of the African countries that tries to graduate from situation of total poverty at least to middle income status is the sustainable infrastructure, which enable the peasant farmers to attain the smallest dairy income at the household bases, which will transform the lives of the people livening in the rural communities.
Government and service providers have been challenged by the situation of water in the rural areas, being the biggest problem to the total development in the rural communities in African countries.
It is still a big challenging and an oversight situation for African countries that have embarked on huge commercial agriculture in rural areas, which are in the hands of the few people, than emphasizing on household dairy income.
Until the situation of hand to mouth to the people in rural areas is minimized at household levels, we still having periodic and annual shortage of food that leads to famine and disaster in rural areas.
Household Agriculture projects such as: Poultry keeping, Cattle zero grazing, Piggery, Green houses (horticulture) have been proved as the best way to go if we are to transform the lives of the poor people in the African countries.
This will emphasize and ensure the food security and the financial capability in the communities living in the rural areas. Well the government of Uganda had tried something similar to what am now talking to, known as NAADS Programs in rural areas, the program did not bear the anticipated fruits the beneficiaries; reason being the poor situation of water scarcity in the rural areas, where none of the above mentioned household project can be sustainable in this arid situation.
Obtaining sufficient water to the people in rural areas at the household level may not be very easy for the government or any other service providers, through the common systems such as piped water systems, surface water systems such as valley dams and ponds; due to the community settlement plus the insufficient resources in terms of funds.
Rainwater harvesting system is the only system that proved right to sustain the household project in the rural communities in Uganda and Africa in general.
It is a simple technology applied to attain this system using the local available materials, if the community members attain competent sensitization training about the system.
Voluntarily, I came out to rescue and support my community and the whole of Africa against the tragedy of water scarcity using this reliable and viable system to the people in the rural areas after enough research and experience and being victim of this situation.
Now the main purpose of this to seek for financial support to curry out the rural community training on household rainwater harvesting project.
Best regards
Kashaija Joseph
