travel document
I am extremely disgusted with the Bosnian embassy in Chicago. Recently my father passed away and I reached out to the embassy for a travel document so I can attend his funeral. My passport was expired and I asked for a travel document that can accompany my green card. I was denied the service by our embassy in Chicago. The representative words were that after the recent audit they became so strict and cannot make any exceptions. Not only that but he made sure to insult me and lecture me how I am not a respectful citizen and why in the world I would let my passport be expired. Nevertheless, I continued calling and asking for alternative solutions. I was not offered any help to accommodate my needs. I did not go to my father’s funeral. After all was said and done, I find out that only THREE months later my friend found himself in the same situation. Expired passport, mother passed away, GUESS WHAT, he got his travel document within a week because of his connections to someone that works in the embassy. Love my friend and happy for him that he is able to go and say his final goodbyes. However, I am beyond words frustrated how even on United States grounds we continue to pursue the corrupt way of handling business. I have money, I can afford bribery if I only knew that was allowed in the United States of America. I am writing this here, this is just a beginning. I will get to the bottom of this to see why someone else’s mourning is more important than mine. I live in the country of equality, justice and peace and I demand to be treated as such.
